Design Ideas and Aspirations

Award winning Glenn Howells Architects has led on the emerging vision for the redevelopment of Paradise Circus. In the future, they will be working together with a number of other architectural practices to create buildings with a diverse range of architectural styles throughout the development.

The potential redevelopment of Paradise Circus could:

  • Improve links between Birmingham's Westside (ICC, NIA, Brindleyplace) and the traditional city centre
  • Re-connect the Jewellery Quarter, Summer Row and Great Charles Street back to the city centre by downgrading the impact of major highways
  • Create a connected series of new traffic free streets and squares as part of a new masterplan
  • Provide a lively mix of uses to create an exciting new part of the city
  • Open up new views of the landmark Clock Tower on the Grade II listed Council House
  • Enhance the setting of the historical buildings around Chamberlain and Victoria Squares
  • Respond to the principles of the Big City Plan
  • Provide a sustainable contribution to the future of the city
