Improved Connectivity
The redevelopment of Paradise Circus will provide an ideal opportunity to significantly improve the road layout in the city centre. Changes to major junctions and the reinstatement of two-way traffic will make vehicular access to other parts of the city more logical and allow optimum use of public transport. The transport and highways proposals will be set out in the Transport Assessment report which will be prepared in consultation with Birmingham City Council and other stakeholders.
The proposals for the road layout around Paradise Circus include:
- Simplification of the existing complex road layout
- Removal of the traffic to the side of the Town Hall to extend the pedestrianised area
- 2-way highway connecting Great Charles Street/Sand Pits Parade/Cambridge Street/ Broad Street/Suffolk Street Queensway and Paradise Street
- New, direct pedestrian crossing on Great Charles Street to the Jewellery Quarter
- Connection to the existing bus network
- Ability to connect with emerging Birmingham Sprint and Midland Metro Extension
A Travel Plan to promote and encourage travel to the development by sustainable means will also be presented as part of the outline planning application.
